Conveyor: %General Maintenance


All LOGO!MAT Components are developed to make very little preservative maintenance neces-sary but all components will last way longer if the following tasks get do in the shown intervals. The maintenance and inspection work listed below is to be carried out at the listed intervals to keep the warranty and to follow up constantly if the LOGO!MAT Component is working well. Any defects found must be documented and fixed before operating again. All time specifications are based on single-shift operations.

With an interval of one (1) month the following preservative maintenance should be carried out:
  1. Check all roller conveyor components for wear and damage.
  2. Visual condition check of all components.
  3. Check if all chain covers are installed.
  4. Visual check of the chain tension in the drive stations.
  5. Lubricate the chain, if necessary.

With an interval of six (6) month the following preservative maintenance should be carried out:

  1. Check if all rollers are still bolted to the extrusions.
  2. Check all detachable connections and fastener; loosen screws have to be tightened.
  3. Check the friction of the rollers.

The LOGO!MAT Swing Gate and LOGO!MAT Lift Gate are our standard components used to provide access to the inside of a conveyor loop for maintenance personnel or operators. The Swing Gate is a pneumatically released, manually operated component with safe, ergonomic handling provisions that can be customized in length to fit your needs.

The Swing Gate can be opened almost 180 degrees to maximize the opening. It locks itself once the gate closes and is released pneumatically. The status of the gate (opened or closed) can be monitored by a 12 mm inductive sensor. The sensor provisions are included, but the sensor itself is not part of the standard scope of supply.

Other benefits of the Swing Gate include a conveyor drive motor located underneath the track and adjustable support wheels. Pallet return locks are not part of the standard scope of supply, but are available upon request.

The Swing Gate has the following advantages (compared to the XL Lift Gate):

                  • Safer to operate
                  • Easier to handle
                  • Lower operating forces (more ergonomic)
                  • Available in both swing directions
                  • 180 degree opening possible

    Conveyor: %Replacing the drive motor


    To change the drive motor, please proceed as follows:
    1. Disconnect the electrical and pneumatic supply of the entire conveyor system and secure against reconnection.
    2. Remove the clear front cover of the drive station and release the chain tensioner. Lock it in that position with an adequate device.
    3. Remove the chain from the drive sprocket.
    4. If the drive sprocket has more than 18 teeth, please remove it from the motor shaft as described in the previous chapter "Replacing the re-directional sprocket". For smaller sprockets, the sprocket can remain on the output shaft.
    5. Release the motor clamping bolts and remove the motor backwards.
    6. If the drive sprocket is still installed, please mount it to the new motor according to the procedure of replacing the drive sprocket.
    7. Install the new motor and the drive sprocket, if required, in the reverse order as described. Make sure the drive sprocket is in the correct position: The centerline of the chain has to be in one line.
    8. Re-tension the chain and reset the chain tensioner.
    9. Reinstall the clear front cover.
    10. Run the conveyor system and check the tension of the chain at the chain tensioner. If the tensioner is almost at its far end, the chain has to be shortened by another chain link.
    11. Check the chain tension after two hours of operation again.

    Conveyor: %Replacing the re-directional sprocket


    To change the re-directional sprockets, please proceed as follows:
    1. Disconnect the electrical and pneumatic supply of the entire conveyor system and secure against reconnection.
    2. Turn the fan of the drive motor in the direction of flow to drive the conveyor manually until a master link is visible (zinced).
    3. Remove the clear front cover of the drive station and the steel plate above the clear front cover.
    4. Release the chain tensioner. Lock it in that position with an adequate device.
    5. Open the chain at the master link.
    6. Unbolt the re-directional sprockets.
    7. For installation please proceed in reverse order.
      Pay attention to the correct flow of the chain and install the new re-directional sprockets with locking washers.
    8. Install and check all bolts to be tightened.
    9. Re-tension the chain and reset the chain tensioner.
    10. Reinstall the clear front cover and the metal plate above.
    11. Run the conveyor system and check the tension of the chain at the chain tensioner. If the tensioner is almost at its far end, the chain has to be shortened by another chain link
    12. Check the chain tension after two hours of operation again.

    Conveyor: %Replacing the drive sprocket


    To change the drive sprocket in a drive unit with long tensioner, please proceed as follows:
    1. Disconnect the electrical and pneumatic supply of the entire conveyor system and secure against reconnection.
    2. Remove the clear front cover of the drive station and release the chain tensioner. Lock it in that position with an adequate device.
    3. Remove the chain from the drive sprocket.
    4. Release the mounting bolts of the drive sprocket with an Allen wrench (M6) and remove the bolts with the disk.
    5. Pull the drive sprocket off the motor shaft with a suitable puller. The spacer ring has to remain on the motor shaft because it will be used as a hard stop for the new sprocket to get the right alignment.
    6. Install the new drive sprocket in reverse order. If a drive sprocket with different diameter gets used, the drive chain length has to be checked and it needs to be shortened or lengthened if required. That should be done at an existing master link. Make sure that the drive sprocket is correctly positioned: The centerline of the chain has to be in one line.
    7. Re-tension the chain and reset the chain tensioner.
    8. Install the clear front cover of the drive station.
    9. Run the conveyor system and check the tension of the chain at the chain tensioner. If the chain tensioner is almost at its far end, the chain has to be shortened by another chain link.
    10. Check the chain tension after two hours of operation again.

    Conveyor: %Replacing the drive chain


    A replacement of the entire chain is required when the chain is worn out, or worn beyond the limits of the chain tensioner. Signs for that are high soiling, non-moving chain links and rust at the chain, or seeing a red color code on the chain tensioner slider indicating that it is at the end of its travel.
     
    To replace the chain in a drive unit with long tensioner, please proceed as follows:
    1. Disconnect the electrical supply of the entire conveyor system and secure against reconnection.
    2. Remove the clear front cover of the drive station and release the chain tensioner. Lock it in that position with an adequate device.
    3. Remove the lower extrusion of the drive station by taking out the three attachment bolts.
    4. Remove the chain from the drive sprocket and pull the chain until a master link appears.
    5. Open the master link and connect the new with the old chain. Put the new chain on a clean surface to avoid new dirt and soiling of the chain.
    6. Pull at the open end of the old chain to get the new chain in the chain drive. If needed, extra chain can be connected with additional master links.
    7. Place the chain around the chain tensioner and the drive sprocket and cut the chain so that it can be closed tightly with a master link.
    8. Re-tension the chain and reset the chain tensioner.
    9. Install the lower extrusion of the drive station and reinstall the clear front cover of the drive station.
    10. Run the conveyor system and check the tension of the chain at the chain tensioner. If the chain tensioner is almost at its far end, the chain has to become shortened by another chain link.
    11. Check the chain tension after two hours of operation again.

    Conveyor: %Shortening the drive chain


    To shorten the drive chain, please proceed as follows:
    1. Disconnect the electrical supply of the entire conveyor system and secure against reconnection.
    2. Remove the top rail extrusion above the drive station.
    3. Turn the fan of the drive motor in the direction of flow to drive the conveyor manually until a master link is visible (zinced).
      CAUTION: There is a residual danger because of the non covered chain drive.
    4. Remove the clear front cover of the drive station and release the chain tensioner. Lock it in that position with an adequate device.
    5. Open the master link, and pull the chain to tension and shorten the excessive chain.
    6. Reconnect both chain ends with the master link. Pay attention to the correct orientation and style of the master link: The lock of the master link leads towards the bottom rail extrusion, the locking plate faces into the direction of the conveyor flow.
    7. Re-tension the chain and reset the chain tensioner.
    8. Mount the clear front cover and install the top rail extrusion piece. Please ensure that the chain guide and the guide strip are installed correctly. Install all chain covers correctly and completely again.
    9. Run the conveyor system and check the tension of the chain at the chain tensioner. If the chain tensioner is almost at its far end, the chain has to become shortened by another chain link.
    10. Check the chain tension after two hours of operation again.

    Conveyor: %Replacing the pallet stop insert


    Please position and secure the pallet upside down for a better handling.
     
    To change the pallet stop insert, please proceed as follows:
    1. De-install and remove the attachment bolts and the lock washers of the stop insert.
    2. Remove the stop insert with the return stop flapper with suitable tools.
    3. Insert the new stop insert and the return stop flapper in the intended opening. Make sure that the PU damping strips are inserted and the stop insert is even on the bottom of the cut-out.
    4. Insert and tighten the attachment bolts with the lock washers. Make sure that the heads of the screws do not protrude beyond the stop insert, and that the bolts are not over tightened as they are bolted into an aluminum thread.
    5. Check the function of the return stop flapper and its movement.

    When working on the side guide rollers, a free access has to be provided at their mounting point. Please remove any attached structure on top of the pallet, if necessary.
     
    To change the side guide rollers of a pallet, please proceed as follows:
    1. Loosen both bolts (only loosen, do not remove them yet) from the top of the top plate that holds the side guide rollers.
    2. Push the bolts down, so that the shaft of the side guide rollers moves out of the pocket in the top plate.
    3. Remove both bolts completely.
    4. Now the side guide rollers can be removed to the side together with the shaft.
    5. Install the new side guide roller in the reverse order as described above. Make sure that the roller is flexible, can rotate freely and the bolts are tightened.
